FAQs

What is newborn lifestyle photography?

Lifetyle photography picks the best bits of documentary and traditional portraiture and fuses them together to bring you natural images that capture real moments and emotions.

These sessions take place in the comfort of your own home and include the whole family. They are generally unposed and don't include props (except maybe include grandma's blanket), although I will give you some guidance around positioning and location to get the best light and most flattering angles. Your job is simply to love and dote on your newborn baby - and mine is to scoop up all that love and excitement in the room in a photograph.

What age should my baby be for these sessions?

Because these sessions are baby led and unposed, there's no real hard and fast rules around when they can be done. We are more likely (but not guaranteed) to get some sleepy shots in the first 1 -3 weeks, and more likely to get eyes open, interaction and smiles around 6 - 12 weeks - so it really depends depends on what sort of photos you want and when the time is right for you.

How long does the session take?

Sessions are usually held on week day mornings and tend to take between 1 - 2 hours, with plenty of time for feeding, changing and cuddles!

Can other family members be involved?

Yes, of course! The session can include whoever you feel comfortable with (in fact, those photos with the grandparents in are priceless!)

How do I prepare my home for the session?

Don't panic!! Your home doesn't need to be fully styled and spotless!! But it is good to have certain rooms looking how you want them in the photos so, if possible, clear the clutter in the main bedroom and lounge, pop on a white/pale duvet cover and if you want to add a few house plants/fresh flowers in the those rooms, feel free!

What should we wear?

For the family, neutral colours, earthy tones or pastels tend to work best. Anything with texture or movement also looks amazing (dresses, skirts, woolens, linens, frills, cottons, etc). Try to avoid large logos, distracting patterns/writing, loud sports wear and too much black.

For baby, keep it simple. A neutral or plan white baby grow can look fabulous.

What's most important is that you all feel great in what you're wearing, but if you need some inspiration, please contact me and I'll send you a link to to some ideas...

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions fees start from $150. Digital packages start from $795. Wall art starts from $350.

There's a range of products to choose from including matted prints, framed fine art, canvases, beautiful albums and digital packages. (Please contact me for details).

How do we book a session?

Contact me for a full price list. If you are keen to proceed, I'll email you an online booking form/contract and an invoice for the session fee. We'll pencil in an approximate date for the session, but can confirm that once your baby has arrived.

(Please note that the session fee is non-refundable - but is transferable).

How do we get our photos?

I'll advise you when your gallery is ready, then we make a time for you to come to my home, to view and choose your images and products. There's no hard sell - it's a low key session (more of a chat really) where I can show you options for your images that may not have seen before and answer any questions about your gallery.

Once you have chosen, high resolution digital files will be uploaded to a password protected online gallery for your to download, and printed items can be collected from my home, once they are ready (or shipped with costs).
